Delete Your Account

Last updated: September 26, 2026

You can delete your Praying account and its data at any time. You do not need the app to do it. Choose whichever of the three ways below is easiest for you.

Before You Delete

  • Download your data first if you want to keep it. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone, and because your journal and chats are encrypted with your password, nobody can recover them afterwards, including us. In the app, use Settings, Download my data. On the web, the Delete Account dialog offers Download your data.
  • Cancel any app subscription in your App Store or Google Play settings. Deleting your account does not stop Apple or Google from renewing a subscription you bought through them.
  • If you pay for a church's subscription, cancel it first in the church dashboard at church.praying-app.com, under Billing. We cannot delete an account that is still paying for a church plan that renews. The church keeps its plan until the paid period ends.

1. In the App

Open Praying and go to Settings, then Delete account. Confirm twice. Your account is deleted straight away and you are signed out.

2. On the Web

Sign in at app.praying-app.com with the same email and password, open Settings, and choose Delete Account. Type DELETE to confirm. This works from any computer or phone browser.

3. By Email

If you cannot sign in, email support@praying-app.com from the email address of your account and ask us to delete it. We only act on requests sent from that address, so nobody else can delete your account. We will confirm by email when it is done, normally within a few days and never later than one month after your request.

What Is Deleted

Your sign-in account, your profile (name, bio and email), your encryption keys, your journal, prayer sessions and reminders, your Bible Chat history, your bookmarks, memorized verses and reading progress, your devices and push tokens, your newsletter subscriptions, your memberships in families, groups and churches, and the posts, comments and group messages you wrote.

All of this is removed from our live systems immediately. Copies may remain in our encrypted backups for up to 35 days, after which they are permanently erased. Server logs, which can contain your account ID and IP address but never your content, are kept for up to 90 days for security and then deleted.

What Is Kept

A few records that other people's content depends on stay behind, but they keep only an internal ID that no longer links to any account:

  • "Prayed" marks you left on other people's prayer requests (prayer wall ones expire with the post after 30 days)
  • Reports you filed that a moderator has already reviewed

Content that belongs to a church, such as announcements and events you published as a pastor, stays with the church. If you are the only administrator of a church, add another administrator before you delete your account so the church is not left without one.
